Dear NI1 students, In the text about San Francisco, we read about Barbary Coast but there is not much indication about what it was. Can you tell us what you find out in this link?
"The Barbary Coast, Pacific Street," photographer unknown, c.1910.

Barbary coast was the term used by Europeans from the 16th until the 19th century to refer to much of the collective land of the Berber people. The name is clearly derived from the Berber people of north Africa. A dangerous part of the city of San francisco known as a notorious place for its gambling dens, saloons, brothels and outlaws.

Yeah, Houria! That's right!
Today the street doesn't exist any more as it is now overlapped by Chinatown, North Beach, Jackson Square, and the Financial District.
