Eyes on the stars

On January 28, 1986, NASA Challenger mission STS-51-L ended in tragedy when the shuttle exploded 73 seconds after takeoff. On board was physicist Ronald E. McNair, who was the second African American to enter space. But first, he was a kid with big dreams in Lake City, South Carolina.

After watching, can you answer these questions?

1.       When did the story of the library take place?
2.
What happened when he entered the library? What names was he called?
3.
       How was the problem solved?
4.
How did the librarian give Ronald his book?
5.
What was special about Star trek?
6.
How did a coloured boy from South Carolina become an astronaut?
7.
How old would he be today?

Bleed for This

Lovers of boxing movies, delight: in this new addition to the genre, Miles Teller plays Vinny Pazienza (now Vinny Paz), a junior middleweight world champion forced to sideline his career after breaking his neck in a car accident—but only temporarily. As tales of indefatigable heroes go, Pazienza works with another underdog, a potbellied, hard-drinking trainer played by Aaron Eckhart, and training-montages his way back to victory in the ring.

Does grammar matter?

It can be hard sometimes, when speaking, to remember all of the grammatical rules that guide us when we’re writing. When is it right to say “the dog and me” and when should it be “the dog and I”? Does it even matter? Andreea S. Calude dives into the age-old argument between linguistic prescriptivists and descriptivists — who have two very different opinions on the matter.
